Famine-struck N Koreans 'eating children'

Cannibalism is increasing in North Korea following another poor harvest and a big cut in international food aid, according to refugees who have fled the stricken country.
Aid agencies are alarmed by refugees' reports that children have been killed and corpses cut up by people desperate for food. Requests by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to be allowed access to "farmers' markets", where human meat is said to be traded, have been turned down by Pyongyang, citing "security reasons".
Anyone caught selling human meat faces execution, but in a report compiled by the North Korean Refugees Assistance Fund (NKRAF), one refugee said: "Pieces of 'special' meat are displayed on straw mats for sale. People know where they came from, but they don't talk about it."
The NKRAF, an aid body set up in China five years ago which helps to smuggle food and medicines into parts of North Korea off-limits to WFP officials, interviewed 200 refugees for the report.
"If a funeral takes place during the day and the burial is performed that evening, the grave may be dug open and the body stolen before morning," said one refugee.
Another witness, named only as Lee, 54, said he feared that his missing grandsons, aged eight and 11, had been killed for food. As he searched widely for them, they boys' friends said they had vanished near a market.
Mr Lee said police who raided a nearby restaurant found body parts. The business's owners were shot.
Gerald Bourke, the WFP's representative in Beijing, said it was difficult for his organisation to substantiate the reports of cannibalism as they were unable to get to the markets. "As in any desperately poor country, it is something we might stumble on," he said. "It's not just a problem for us, but also our donors." Because of the food shortages, many people were having to survive on nine ounces of rations a day - less than half the recommended minimum daily intake.
North Korea's ability to feed itself has been hit by floods, deforestation and lack of farm fertilisers and equipment. The WFP says Japan provided 500,000 tons of food aid in 2001, making it the biggest donor, but sent nothing last year. Food aid from America has been cut from 340,000 tons in 2001 to 40,000 tons so far this year. Washington has pledged to send a further 60,000 tons if Pyongyang lifts restrictions on the operations of agencies such as the WFP.

Desperate times will call for desperate measures.....

It is at that point the sheep will "beg and plead" for TPTB to "help" them ..... of which they will glady do as long as you accept the RFID chip and live at the FEMA camp for" room and board"

This assumes that Americans still can figure out how to cook. Most soccer moms I see couldn't cook a piece of raw unprocessed/un-butchered meat if their lives depended on it.

Makes me also think our food stocks are useless to them too. How do you cook rice now? There is no box that tells me how!

Are massive multiple crop failures here possible? Yes, but Americans are also far less stoic than N. Koreans. I do therefore humbly offer it to public consideration that of the hundred and twenty thousand children already computed, twenty thousand may be reserved for breed, whereof only one-fourth part to be males; which is more than we allow to sheep, black cattle or swine; and my reason is, that these children are seldom the fruits of marriage, a circumstance not much regarded by our savages, therefore one male will be sufficient to serve four females. That the remaining hundred thousand may, at a year old, be offered in the sale to the persons of quality and fortune through the kingdom; always advising the mother to let them suck plentifully in the last month, so as to render them plump and fat for a good table. A child will make two dishes at an entertainment for friends; and when the family dines alone, the fore or hind quarter will make a reasonable dish, and seasoned with a little pepper or salt will be very good boiled on the fourth day, especially in winter.

I have reckoned upon a medium that a child just born will weigh 12 pounds, and in a solar year, if tolerably nursed, increaseth to 28 pounds

I went to a restaurant in India once, where they had "fried children" on the menu. But I suspect it was a typo. But on the other hand I did have omelette without eggs as advertised on another menu in India.... Maybe the step from veganism to cannibalism isn't that far?

Oh, sure, now, but by the time mass starvation kicks in to that point, they'll just be all floppy and skinny, respectively. :D

Cannibalism can happen anywhere when people get hungry enough. There are stories of American POWs on Japanese prison ships slitting each other's throats to drink the blood because they were so desperately thirsty. I remember one story in which a man reported seeing a son, wild with thirst and hunger, trying to slit his own father's throat.

There were three men who were lost in the forest. They were then captured by cannibals. The cannibal king then told the prisoners that they could live if they pass the trial. Three guys are stranded on an island and are captured by cannibals. The chief of the cannibals says to the three men,"I'll give you all one chance at life. You may choose any one weapon or item that I have in my kingdom. You will be set free for 30 seconds and then my cannibals will come after you. If you escape their grasp, you are free to go. If we capture you, we eat you and then use your skin to make a canoe!" He then asks the first guy to choose. Nervous about making the decision, he frantically runs around the kingdom until he stumbles on a little revolver and grabs it and a handful of bullets and takes off! 30 seconds later, as promised, the chief yells out "The hunt is on!!!".
On that command, hundreds run off into the jungle hunting the man down. In no time they find the man and although he has the gun, there are too many cannibals. They eventually overpower the man surround him and eat him and use his skin for a canoe!
The chief asks the second man what he would like and seeing what little good the gun or any weapon would do he says to the chief, "Give me your fastest horse!" The chief grants him that and the man books it out ASAP!!! 30 seconds later, the cannibals pursue the man. With their intense knowledge of the terrain and large number, they swiftly surround the man, who was lost and bewildered, and cook him and skin him for a canoe!
The chief then asks the third man what weapon or item he would like and the man, who had been contemplating a plan to outsmart the cannibals says to him, "Give me a fork!"
The chief amazed and confused at the man's request says, "A fork?! What are you gonna do with a fork???"
The man replies, "Just give it to me, dammit!" The chief then hands the man a fork. The man grabs it, starts stabbing himself all over his body and yells out,
" HERE'S TO YOUR F**KIN CANOE!!"

Cannibalism is a pretty grisly topic, but how about taking it to the next level?

If you were by yourself, would you cut off one of your limbs and eat it to stay alive? Not trying to gross anyone out, but just wondering about the extremes of the human instinct for self-preservation! It shuts down all parts of your body gradgualy to concerve vital energy. The fat goes first then muscles get absorbed eventualy even the HEART --- then you DIE!:sarc:

Choping off a limb just means you DIE sooner!

Stephen King wrote a very excellent short story on just this subject. Grisly and disgusting King at his best. A surgeon is stranded after trying to smuggle heroin. He gradually cuts pieces off of himself to eat, aided by the painkilling heroin.

I ran across an interesting article on cannibalism in modern China. Seems some people really love people! Ever watch The Hills Have Eyes?

Motel Hell was a humorous B grade movie about a sausage maker who trapped tourists in his hotel and made world famous sausage out of them.

OK - seriously - if it got so bad I had to eat parts of my body to survive? Forget it - I'll just die!

I am not sure I could hack off parts of my body (tho Raw 1-4 certainly gives good pointers! *rme*)

Secondly, I am suppose to cook it - or even eat it raw - while I am in servere pain?

Third, how long can I do it for till I die.........and what in the world am I trying to survive for in that sort of environment????
